About Us

Welcome to the Building Green Council of Metro Portland.  We are a member driven council of the Home Builders Association of Metro Portland, a chapter of the National Association of Home Builders.  Our collective membership is comprised of Builders, Designers, Realtors, Manufacturers, Providers and other associates interested in driving the green building industry forward, improving construction practices, energy and water effiicency, and providing quality housing to the population of Portland and its surrounding metropolitan areas. Below is some basic information about the BGC:

Building Green Council  Mission Statement:
“To Foster Green Building Knowledge, Education and Application.”

Building Green Council Members Guiding Principles:
The members of the Building Green Council strive to be leaders in green building practices through adhering to BGC guiding principles and achieving BGC goals.

Members of the BGC resolve:

  1. To work towards a relevant understanding of green practices
  2. To support organizations that provide voluntary market driven programs which lead to an increase in energy efficiency
  3. To adopt green practices within their businesses

Building Green Council Goals:

  1. Strategic/Policy/Liaison: Serve as the local sustainability/green liaison between HBA and other programs, non-profits, agencies and government efforts.
  2. Industry Education/Information: Help develop, coordinate and promote education, information and communications to our members on green building, development and remodeling.
  3. Public Awareness and Recognition: Enhance consumer recognition and promotion of green building to increase interest among both builders and consumers in green, sustainability and energy efficiency.

EcoVative is our largest event of the year and was established to help members achieve the above goals and resolutions.  EcoVative is an annual event that occurs every spring. Last year was the first year we opened this event up to the general residential building community because the Council felt the information being shared at this event was too high of quality to be kept within our brain trust. We hope you will see value in the fabulous speaker line up that we have and will choose to join us on our quest towards a relevant and current understanding of sustainable building practices.
